I also have DDD but have fibromyalgia and herniated discs along with it. I know from how I feel , as far as how bad my pain is that I would jump at the chance for the surgery. Unfortunately they say I'm too young for the surgery and want to try other therapies for a while, I'm facing having to go on social security disability because they wont do it and I can hardly function through out the day. I realize there are risks with any operation but if it were me I would take that chance. I also my friends bf had the fusion done on him and he is much better now. Good luck.
