I have a megane coupe, and it's really hard to shift into 2nd gear. sometimes into 1st.?

I have just bought a magane coupe, 1998. It's really dodgey on occasion to get mainly into 2nd gear. I really have to hoist it into gear, and when i can't, I just go straight to 3rd!! Also, when trying to get into 1st (not so often), it's hard, and have to release my foot from the clutch, and retry, and then it's fine. Any ideas??
