What do i use to clean candle wax off?

i had a candle burning on my desk and accidently knocked it over. oops :) it got on my desk, my carpet and the trash can underneath my desk. i used hot water and a toothbrush on the desk and trashcan it helped a little but kind of just spread it around. and i have no idea what to do with the carpet. any tips?
