Muslims say that killing themselves is called martyrdom.....?

But even Mahatma Gandhi (freedom fighter of India) is also called martyr but he never killed himself, he was shot dead and never did he use violence to get freedom.THEN WHY R THESE MUSLIMS CALLING THEMSELVES MARTYRS? THEY ALSO USE VIOLENCE ?
