Hair help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

my hair tends to be like a triangle in the sense that its really thin at the tob but thick and poofs at the ends. what can i do to make my hair have more volume at the roots but thinner at the ends????also what would i want to ask my hairdresser to get it to be thinner at ends but more volume at roots?
