Human Life begins when?

i ume it would start at conception,but only because i don't know any better.life is the following;has cells,excretion,eats food,responds,reproduces.we get life from our parents and their dna.i dont know if i believe people have souls.?the goal of the human race,scientifically,is nothing more than to keep reproducing and carry on the species.
